Minor in Military Science
About This Program
The Military Science Studies minor is comprised of classroom lecture, leadership lab, and physical training for Junior and Senior level ROTC Cadets. Each student who commissions will automatically meet the requirements to receive the Military Science Studies minor.
Students learn about military heritage, the development of military technology, leadership ethics, military tradition, communication, human relations, and leadership theory and techniques. These specialized topics prepare students for service in the Army and for future careers in government, management and administration, intelligence, international relations, public policy and the private sector. Students learn through instructor presentations, group discussions, team projects and hands-on leadership exercises.
Competencies
- Upon completion of the Military Science minor, cadets will be: prepared to become officers and lead soldiers in any of the three components of the United States Army-Reserves, Active Duty, or National Guard,
- Upon completion of the Military Science minor, cadets will be proficient in subjects such as self-development, dismounted infantry tactics, leadership techniques, team building, planning concepts, interpersonal skills, and critical thinking.
- Upon completion of the Military Science minor, cadets will have learned and developed leadership qualities necessary for Command and Staff functions and operations.
- Upon completion of the Military Science minor, student cadets will have gained a foundation of knowledge of Military Traditions, platoon level operations and basics for Large Scale Combat Operations, Military Justice System with emphasis on company-level actions and requirements, including Law of Land Warfare.
Admissions Criteria
To be eligible for the Military Science minor, a student must:
- Be enrolled in the ROTC program.
- Receive acceptance of military science as a minor from their major degree department.

Students must receive a B or better in all Military Science courses for the courses to count towards their minor.
Program Completion
To complete a Military Science minor, students must:
- Successfully complete all required coursework with a grade of B or better.
- Successfully complete the Army's Leader Development and Assessment Course offered annually in the Summer.
- Meet all Army prerequisites to earn a commission as an Army officer upon graduation.
