Bachelor of Art in History to Master of Art in History Fast Track
About This Program
Bachelor of Art in History to Master of Art in History Fast Track allows committed UTA undergraduate history majors (History BA or History BA with Social Studies Teaching Certification) to complete a graduate degree in history more quickly with nine hours counting for both an undergraduate and graduate history degree. The master's in history offers a flexible curriculum, allowing students to earn a general degree or one accompanied by a certificate in either archival administration or public history. Apart from two required courses completed early in the program, students tailor their course of study among available course offerings to meet individual interests and career objectives. Students may choose to complete a thesis or select a non-thesis option. Interested students should contact the History MA Graduate Advisor.

History BA (Social Studies Teaching Certification)
Admissions Criteria
For admission to the fast-track program undergraduates must:
- have a GPA of 3.3 in all coursework in all schools, and an overall 3.3 in all coursework completed at UTA
- have a GPA in all history courses at UTA of 3.5
- have completed HIST 3300 and two courses selected for the student's concentration with a B or better in each and a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher in these courses
- have completed 30 credit hours at UTA
- be within 30 credit hours of completing their BA in History BA or History BA with Social Studies Teaching Certification.
For automatic admission to the graduate program, students must have earned cumulative a GPA of 3.0 in up to 9 graduate SCH (see course list for options) and earned no grade lower than a B in any course.

Majors should complete general education core and history core requirements before enrolling in upper level history courses and should complete HIST 3300HIST 3300 as early as possible. The requirements of UNIV 1101 are met by HIST 3300. Students may not enroll in HIST 4395 until they have completed HIST 3300 with a "C" or better. For admission to the fast track, students must complete HIST 3300 with a "B" or better.

Students may satisfy the language requirement through transfer credit or AVANT test; doing so will make additional elective hours available.

Students will create an area of concentration in consultation with the undergraduate advisor. HIST 4395 is taken as the last history course, excepting internships.

Program Completion
Language Competency
Competency in one foreign language is required to obtain the Master's degree. This may be demonstrated by one of three methods:
- four semesters of credit in an approved language verifiable in an official transcript
- successful completion of an examination administered by an approved UTA faculty member or by an approved outside source such as a CLEP test
- a passing grade in a graduate-level translation course (MODL 5301) offered by the Department of Modern Languages
