This course will present the theoretical and scientific basis for traditional therapeutic interventions including taping, wrapping, padding, durable medical equipment, cryotherapy, thermotherapy, joint mobilizations, exercise, and manual therapy techniques commonly used in the treatment of orthopedic injuries and conditions. Discussions will include the study of physical rehabilitation theory including basic physics, physiological effects, indications, and contraindications for traditional therapeutic interventions. Emphasis will be placed on the critical analysis of clinical practice and existing research to establish quality patient care. This course includes the execution of clinical and home care plans, the use of patient rated outcome scales, and the integration of pharmacological interventions.
