BE 5305. INTRODUCTION TO BIOMANUFACTURING. 3 Hours.
This course provides an overview of the fundamental principles and practices of modern biomanufacturing used in the production of vaccines, therapeutic proteins, and gene therapies. Topics include molecular cloning, bioprocessing fundamentals, microbial and mammalian cell culture, bioreactor operations, downstream purification, and quality control and regulatory considerations. The course integrates theoretical concepts with practical insights into industrial biomanufacturing workflows and includes an optional hands-on training component at the National Center for Therapeutics Manufacturing (NCTM). Prerequisite: Admission to a graduate program.
