BE 3310. BIOMECHANICS WITH COMPUTATIONAL APPLICATIONS. 3 Hours.
The course starts with an introduction to solid mechanics, the basics of stress, strain, constitutive relationship, and the concept of equilibrium. With these, students analyze the problems of extension, torsion, bending and inflation of structures. Examples cover the fundamental of structure deformation, stress analysis, and biomechanical behavior of various biological soft, hard tissues, organs, organ systems, and their roles in human physiology at normal and disease states. Topics also include tissue remodeling and degeneration in the context of mechanobiology. Computation applications includes the design and analysis of medical prosthetic devices. Prerequisite: Accepted into the BE Professional Program or consent of the BE undergraduate advisor.
