Minor in Medical Humanities and Bioethics
About This Program
Combining approaches from the medical humanities and bioethics, students are encouraged to take a humanistic perspective on the practice of medicine, using methods from philosophy, the social sciences, and the arts. This program provides students with an opportunity to earn a Minor in Medical Humanities and Bioethics and is relevant to a wide range of fields including healthcare, disability studies, public health, social work, and biomedical engineering.
The Minor in Medical Humanities and Bioethics requires 18 hours. In addition to foundations courses, the student may choose from listed courses in disability studies. The minor offers independent study and internship opportunities.
Competencies
- Upon completion, the student will demonstrate oral and written communication skills related to professional interpersonal interactions and especially in-patient care.\\n
- Upon completion, the student will demonstrate analytical and critical thinking in decision making related to professional practice and especially patient care.
- Upon completion, the student will participate in teamwork and interpersonal collaboration related to solving complex problems in a professional arena and especially in a healthcare environment.
- Upon completion, the student will understand, display, and demonstrate an understanding of the various moral theories and philosophical positions related to patient care.
