SPAN 4343. INTERPRETING IN HEALTHCARE SETTINGS. 3 Hours.

A study of different types of interpretation. Healthcare terminology in English and Spanish will be addressed with a special emphasis on the diverse roles of healthcare interpreters as well as various locations where they are needed, such as hospital clinics, doctors' offices, and hearings that deal with medical issues. Ethical standards of practice in healthcare interpreting will be examined. SPAN 4343 cannot be applied toward the B.A. in Spanish for Global Competence. To take as an elective, non-Spanish majors should contact the instructor. Prerequisite: SPAN 3341 with a grade of B or better.
