About This Program

Engineering majors seeking a math minor should refer to the College of Engineering section of this catalog for the requirements for the engineering math minor.

Students in non-engineering majors may minor in mathematics by taking 18 hours of mathematics courses with an average GPA in mathematics courses of 2.0, and with at least nine hours of 3000/4000 level courses. The courses that may be counted toward a math minor are MATH 1426 and above, except for capstone mathematics courses specifically for prospective middle or secondary grades mathematics teachers. Nine hours of the minor must be taken in residence.

Competencies

1. The student will gain additional knowledge and skills in mathematics to complement and support their work in their major.

 

Curriculum 

Select 9 hours from all MATH courses (MATH 1426 and above) excluding capstone courses for middle and secondary grade teachers.		9
Select 9 hours of advanced-level (3000/4000-level) MATH courses excluding capstone courses for middle and secondary grade teachers.		9
Total Hours		18

Exceptions:

• MATH 3313is prohibited for BSCPE and BSIE majors.
• MATH 3318 and MATH 3319 are prohibited for BSME and BSAE majors.
• Only one of MATH 3319 or MATH 3330 3330 may be counted toward the minor.
• Only one of MATH 3318 or MATH 3319 may be counted toward the minor.

Advising Resources

First-time-in-college students should plan to speak to the math advisor when starting their second year. Transfer students should contact the math advisor after acceptance at UTA to create a degree plan and enroll in classes.
