Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Gerontology Healthcare

About This Program

Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Gerontology Healthcare will identify individuals who have advanced expertise in the care and management of older adult individuals and populations. Certificate courses focus upon an inter-professional approach to develop advanced knowledge of the care and management of older adults, their families, and communities in a variety of health care settings.

Older adults are growing in numbers worldwide. By some estimates, adults over age 65 will soon represent a greater proportion of our societies than children. Many health care providers do not have focused gerontological content in their programs of study yet are faced with caring for increasing numbers of older adult patients and seek specific gerontological content to increase their confidence and skill in caring for and managing this population.

This certificate may be combined other programs of study, or applicants can attend strictly for the certificate. Licensed and certified Advanced Practice Registered Nurses may take a Gerontological Specialist exam which identifies them to employers and the broader community as an expert in the care and management of older adults. Courses from this certificate could be used in lieu of required focused continuing education courses for applicants who wish to take that certification exam and seek recognition as a Gerontological Specialist.
