Certificate in French Translation

About This Program

The fifteen-hour Certificate in French Translation meets the increasing demands of local, national, and international organizations for professionals who can address the challenges of modern multicultural societies. The program is designed for students that have an interest in pursuing careers in translation, localization, business, marketing, human resources, health care, law, and linguistics. The certificate gives students conceptual tools and hands-on practice for written translation.

Competencies

  1. Upon completion, students will demonstrate proficiency in listening, reading, speaking, and writing French (communication skills, critical thinking skills).
  2. Upon completion, students will demonstrate intercultural knowledge and competence in French and Francophone cultures (social responsibility, global competence, critical thinking skills).
  3. Upon completion, students will demonstrate an understanding of course content knowledge as it pertains to French translation (e.g., textual analysis, communicative genres and conventions, translation theory, translation history) (disciplinary knowledge, critical thinking skills).

Relevant special topics courses can be substituted with the approval of the advisor in consultation with the Section Head of French.
