Minor in Mexican American & Latino Studies
About This Program
Through research, teaching, and service, the Minor in Mexican American & Latino Studies enables the student to explore issues that are critical to understanding the Mexican American and Latino experience. In addition, as private and government employers are increasingly requiring professionals with intercultural and international competence, the MAS Minor provides students a unique opportunity to be prepared for the challenges of a competitive global society. Minoring in MAS can help you better prepare to work and live in a society in which Latinos continue to become visible neighbors, fellow citizens, clients, and co-workers. Besides learning about Latino culture, you will also be awarded a MAS Certification after program completion.
Competencies
- Students will demonstrate critical thinking, communication, and analytical skills by identifying and illustrating three events of great consequence to the socioeconomic and psycho-historical development of Mexican American communities.
- Students will demonstrate adeptness in drawing specific connections between the knowledge gained in Mexican American Studies with other disciplines and professional careers.
