Minor in Geology

About This Program

The Minor in Geology is designed to strengthen students’ understanding of geology and other geoscience disciplines. This minor program of study focuses on key concepts related to e.g., mineralogy, structural geology, sedimentology, petrology, hydrology, paleontology, and atmospheric and oceanic sciences The goal of the minor is to train students with the knowledge, skills, and perspectives essential to geology. 

Competencies

  1. Upon completion, students will be able to demonstrate expertise in methods found in multiple discipline areas within geology.
  2. Upon completion, students will be able to critically analyze scientific data in geology or geoscience disciplines.
  3. Upon completion, students will be able to communicate complex information from geoscience in form of oral presentations or written project documents.


 

Curriculum 

Select 18 hours of GEOL courses.18
Select up to 12 hours in GEOL courses numbered below 3000.
Select at least 6 hours in 3000/4000 level GEOL courses excluding: GEOL 3100, GEOL 3340, GEOL 4189, GEOL 4190, GEOL 4289, GEOL 4393..
Total Hours18

Transfer students must complete a minimum of 9 hours at UTA, 6 of which must be 3000-4000 level. A 2.0 GPA is required for coursework in the minor.
