Certificate in Rural Health

About This Program

Undergraduate Certificate in Rural Health will prepare individuals to have advanced expertise and knowledge surrounding rural health issues such as access, remote health care delivery, rural health policy, and promising new strategies for the improvement of rural health outcomes as per program level.

Competencies

  1. Upon completion, students will be able to conduct a needs assessment of a rural community to identify strengths and gaps in access to health care for rural residents.
  2. Upon completion, students will be able to identify strategies to improve the health of residents who live in rural America.
  3. Upon completion, students will be able to describe health conditions that are uniquely impacted by rural residence, both positive and negative, as well as modifiable factors that influence health outcomes of rural residents.
  4. Upon completion, students will be able to discuss the barriers in rural health that contribute to social isolation and access to care.

Admissions Criteria

Any undergraduate eligible to enroll in upper-division (3000/4000-level) courses may enroll in the certificate.

Program Completion

Students must maintain a grade point average of 2.0 or higher in the certificate coursework and request that the certificate to be awarded.
