About This Program
Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Diversity and Equity in Public Health provides graduate-level introductory knowledge and skill sets in conducting community interventions to improve health equity.
Competencies
- Upon completion, students will be able to apply skills to solve public health issues related to issues of equity.
- Upon completion, students will be able to Identify models to promote behavioral and social changes to improve the health of diverse populations.
- Upon completion, students will be able to develop public health interventions that address health disparities using a culturally appropriate approach.
- Upon completion, students will be able to plan and evaluate a public health program aimed to improve the health of an underserved population.
- Upon completion, students will be able to apply the social determinants of health to proposing and shaping health interventions to address health concerns of an underserved minority population.
Admissions Criteria
Prospective UTA Students
- Official transcripts showing an earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited school, with a 3.0 or higher-grade point average for the last 60 undergraduate or the last 18 graduate/post-baccalaureate credit hours completed.
- The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or other standardized graduate school exam is not required for admission to the certificate program. Only GPA, and not GRE or other standardized graduate admission exams, will be considered for admission to the program.
- A one-page personal statement written in English describing the applicant’s interest in and potential for contributing to public health, career objectives, and self-assessment of abilities and preparation for succeeding in a public health graduate program. The quality of written expression in the applicant’s personal statement will be considered.
- An applicant whose native language is other than English must demonstrate a sufficient level of skill with the English language to assure success in graduate studies as defined under Admissions Requirements and Procedures in the Graduate Catalog.
- The applicant’s resume or CV, highlighting professional experience such as accomplishments, linguistic abilities, computer expertise, and analytics expertise.
Current UTA graduate students
Current UTA graduate students who are in good standing in their current UTA graduate program should speak with their advisor about applying to this certificate, and contact the Graduate Public Health Programs faculty advisor for information about admission to the certificate.

Note: all four certificate courses fit directly into the MPH coursework requirements and can be applied toward required MPH degree coursework.
Program Completion
A GPA of 3.0 is required. The certificate may be completed simultaneously with a master’s degree and must be completed within 6 years.
