Certificate in Spanish for the Professions
About This Program
The Certificate in Spanish for the Professions provides foundational academic and professional preparation in Spanish for specific professional purposes. Topics covered by coursework in the certificate program include Spanish for law enforcement, social services, education, health professions, business, communications; Hispanic culture; and intercultural competence. The program prepares students to work with Spanish-speaking individuals and in Spanish-language contexts.
Competencies
- Upon completion, students will demonstrate proficiency in listening, reading, speaking, and writing Spanish (communication skills, critical thinking skills).
- Upon completion, students will demonstrate intercultural knowledge and competence in Hispanic cultures (social responsibility, global competence, critical thinking skills).
- Upon completion, students will demonstrate an understanding of course content knowledge as it pertains to Spanish for the professions (e.g., language, culture, linguistics) (disciplinary knowledge, critical thinking skills).
