Minor in Modern Language Teaching

About This Program

The Minor in Modern Language Teaching provides foundational academic and professional preparation for students interested in teaching modern languages, as well as a framework for students wishing to pursue alternative certification after graduation. The program includes language and culture courses at the intermediate and advanced levels, as well as foreign language pedagogy courses. These are complemented by an internship component that provides hands-on training to pre-service teacher candidates.

Competencies

  1. Upon completion, students will demonstrate proficiency in listening, reading, speaking, and writing the language studied (communication skills, critical thinking skills).
  2. Upon completion, students will demonstrate intercultural knowledge and competence (social responsibility, global competence, critical thinking skills).
  3. Upon completion, students will demonstrate an understanding of course content knowledge (e.g., language, cultures, literatures, and pedagogy) (disciplinary knowledge, critical thinking skills).
  4. Upon completion, students will be able to apply academic content and learned skills to real-world experiences by having participated in experiential learning opportunities (social responsibility, career preparedness, critical thinking skills).
