Minor in German
About This Program
The Minor in German provides foundational academic preparation for students to develop linguistic and intercultural competence through the study of German and the cultures of the German-speaking world. The minor program includes language and culture courses at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels and is designed to maximize the success of both language learners and heritage speakers of German. Language skills enable students to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds, both personally and professionally. The minor program enhances students career prospects in areas requiring advanced use of German such as government, international relations, business, education, media communications, and health, legal, and social services.
Competencies
- Upon completion, students will demonstrate proficiency in listening, reading, speaking, and writing German (communication skills, critical thinking skills).
- Upon completion, students will demonstrate intercultural knowledge and competence in the cultures of the German-speaking world (social responsibility, global competence, critical thinking skills).
- Upon completion, students will demonstrate an understanding of course content knowledge as it pertains to German (e.g., language, culture, literature, linguistics, and area/international studies) (disciplinary knowledge, critical thinking skills).
