Certificate in History of Technology and Science
About This Program
While the Certificate in the History of Technology and Science is open to all undergraduate students, those pursuing Majors in STEM-related disciplines will find it particularly valuable in advancing understanding of the historical origins and development of their vocational fields.
Students of history develop critical skills: the ability to reason and analyze, the capacity to investigate problems and synthesize diverse information and the facility for expressing ideas and information clearly.
Competencies
- Upon completion, students shall demonstrate their knowledge of how technological development and scientific innovation have shaped societies, cultures, and institutions across time and place.
- Upon completion, students shall demonstrate competency in basic research applied to an issue relevant to the history of science and technology.
- Upon completion, students shall demonstrate the ability to use technological development and scientific innovation as a category of analysis.
- Upon completion, students shall demonstrate writing skills and be able to present an historical analysis or argument clearly, employing good style and grammar in the English written language.
