Minor in English

About This Program

Students in the English minor will learn to read closely, critically, and empathetically. In addition, they will learn to conduct scholarly research and to produce clear and cogent arguments in both written and oral form.

Competencies

  1. Students completing the English minor will be able to interpret texts using significant critical methodologies, to analyze those texts critically, and to locate them in historical context.
  2. Students completing the English minor will be able to use library resources to gather research materials and use those materials to evaluate, contextualize, and advance an argument that they can then express coherently, either in writing or orally.
  3. Students completing the English minor will have marketable skills necessary for obtaining employment in fields where analysis, synthesis, research skills, and clarity of expression are required.


 

Curriculum

Select up to 12 hours of any ENGL courses12
Select 6 hours of any advanced-level (3000- and 4000-level) ENGL courses6
Total Hours18

To count toward the minor, all courses must be completed with a grade of C or better. 

Advising Resources

First time in college students must meet with the Liberal Arts advisor at the University Advising Center prior to their first semester but should meet with their program advisor after that. Transfer students should meet with their program advisor to enroll after accepting admission.
