Minor in Communication Studies
About This Program
The Minor in Communication Studies offers students a focused exploration of communication processes within interpersonal, group, organizational, and societal contexts. This program provides coursework in key areas such as interpersonal communication, group communication, organizational communication, public speaking, persuasion, rhetorical criticism, and professional communication. Students pursuing this minor will gain a strong foundation in communication principles, integrating theory with practical applications to enhance their understanding and skill sets. Designed to complement any major, the Communication Studies minor prepares students to become effective practitioners of communication.
Competencies
- Upon completion of this minor, students will have competency in recognizing audience characteristics and crafting messages tailored to different audiences, while building confidence and adaptability in speaking contexts.
- Upon completion of this minor, students will have competency in demonstrating the ability to write clearly, concisely, and coherently for specific purposes.
- Upon completion of this minor, students will have competency in identifying the elements of persuasive communication in interpersonal and public settings, focusing on evidence-based arguments and basic rhetorical strategies.
- Upon completion of this minor, students will have competency in engaging in teamwork by contributing to group efforts and understanding the principles of collaboration in diverse settings.
Admissions Criteria
All degree-seeking undergraduate students are eligible to complete a minor in Communication Studies. Interested students please consult an Academic Advisor in the Department of Communication.
Curriculum
Choose 12 hours of any courses across the Department of Communication in consultation with the Academic Advisor | 12 | |
