Minor in Communication

About This Program

The Minor in Communication provides students with a foundational understanding of human communication across various contexts, including interpersonal, organizational, and mass media. Working with the Academic Advisors in the Department of Communication, students select from a broad range of courses that facilitate the development of essential skills in oral, written, and/or visual communication while exploring the role of communication in shaping relationships, culture, and society. This minor complements a wide array of majors by enhancing students’ ability to craft effective messages and adapt to audiences in professional and social settings.

Competencies

  1. Upon completion of this minor, students will have competency in demonstrating foundational understanding of media literacy.
  2. Upon completion of this minor, students will have competency in identifying essential components of effective messages.
  3. Upon completion of this minor, students will have competency in expressing ideas clearly in verbal, written, and/or visual communication.


 

Admissions Criteria

All degree-seeking undergraduate students are eligible to complete the Minor in Communication.  Interested students please consult an Academic Advisor in the Department of Communication.

Curriculum

12 hours of any courses across the Department of Communication in consultation with the Academic Advisor12
