Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Instructional and Learning Design Technology

About This Program

The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Instructional and Learning Design Technology develops expertise in educational technology. This 12-hour, 100% online gradate certificate offers PreK-12 teachers, university professors, corporate instructors/trainers, and other education professionals the opportunity to enhance their theoretical knowledge and practical skills for the design, development, and integration of education programs supported by technology. 

Programs of study emphasize teaching using educational technology and recommended practices for online learning design. 

Competencies

  1. Upon completion, students will be able to differentiate, interpret, and critique theories and research in the field of educational technology.
  2. Upon completion, students will be able to analyze integrative approaches to planning and implementation of learning technologies in live and online environments.
  3. Upon completion, students will be able to identify instructional strategies and technologies to create and support meaningful learning environments.
  4. Upon completion, students will be able to develop a teaching philosophy to guide inclusive and culturally responsive teaching practices, and demonstrate knowledge of customizing online instruction based on student needs, demographics, and exceptionalities.


 

Admissions Criteria

UNCONDITIONAL ADMISSION

Unconditional admission may be offered to those presenting:

  1. Earned bachelor’s degree
  2. Undergraduate transcripts with at least a 3.0 GPA during the last 60 hours or at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. The higher of these GPAs will be used for admission purposes. A 3.0 GPA in the last 9 hours of graduate coursework may be considered in place of the undergraduate GPA.
  3. Proof of two or more years of relevant experience as a trainer or educator in corporate, military, K12 or higher education settings (for example, HR professional, principal, training manager, instructional designer, teacher, administrator or professor) through submission of professional resume.
  4. Statement of interest (no more than 500 words)

PROBATIONARY ADMISSION

Probationary admission may be offered to those presenting:

  1. Earned bachelor’s degree
  2. Undergraduate transcripts with at least a 2.75 GPA during the last 60 hours or at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA. The higher of these GPAs will be used for admission purposes. A 2.75 GPA in the last 9 hours of graduate coursework may be considered in place of the undergraduate GPA.
  3. Applicants who have less than 2 years of relevant experience and have a GPA of at least 2.75 must submit a professional resume in order for admission to be considered.
  4. Statement of interest (no more than 500 words)
  5. Students granted probationary admission must earn a B or better in the first 6 credit hours of graduate coursework in the College of Education program to be converted from probationary to unconditional admission.

Program Completion

Twelve credit hours of specified coursework completed with a GPA of 3.0 are required to complete the certificate. 

The time limit for completion of the certificate is 6 years. 

PROFESSIONAL DISPOSITIONS

Each student/candidate in the College of Education of UT Arlington will be evaluated on Professional Dispositions by the faculty and staff. These dispositions are identified as essential for a highly-qualified professional. Instructors and program directors will work with students/candidates rated as “unacceptable” in one or more stated criteria. The student/candidate will have an opportunity to develop a plan to remediate any digressions. If digression(s) are not, or cannot be successfully remediated as in the case of an egregious digression, a determination will be made by Committee on continuation or dismissal from the College of Education.
