Certificate in Banking

About This Program

The Certificate in Banking prepares students for various roles in the commercial banking industry, such as credit analyst, relationship manager, business banker, loan officer, compliance officer, financial examiner, commercial real estate lender, business development manager, and risk manager. It gives students an in-depth understanding of banking principles, banking organizational structure and operations, financial instruments, and regulatory frameworks.  The curriculum provides students with a comprehensive understanding of financial institutions and markets in the United States and teaches various applications relevant specifically to the banking industry using financial and accounting principles. Applying marketing and consultative sales principles provides students with skills to present banking products and services to clients and prospects of commercial banks. The Banking Certificate program is available to all business majors and other students with necessary accounting and finance prerequisites.

Competencies

  1. Upon completion, students will understand financial statements and analyze cash flows using financial ratios.
  2. Upon completion, students will be able to employ quantitative problem-solving techniques to evaluate key banking services such as granting loans and accepting deposits.
  3. Upon completion, students will be able to identify, manage, and assess various forms of financial risks.
  4. Upon completion, students will be able to maintain and develop relationships with bank customers.

Admissions Criteria

UT Arlington undergraduates in good standing (meeting a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.25) may earn the certificate. Non-degree seeking (certificate only) students must have gained admission to UT Arlington as non-degree/non-enrolled students. Prerequisites are required for the courses that need to be completed to earn the certificate.

Program Completion

Students must have a GPA of 2.25 or better in the five courses of the certificate. They must have a grade of C or higher in each of the five courses.

Advising Resources

Freshmen students will meet with advisors in the University Advising Center for at least one semester before transitioning to the College of Business.
