CHEM 5336. BIOINORGANIC CHEMISTRY, COFACTORS & COENZYMES. 3 Hours.
Many fundamental life processes (respiration, nitrogen fixation, photosynthesis, and replication) require transition metal ions and/or specialized cofactors to facilitate unique chemical transformations. In this course, all aspects of the bioinorganic chemistry will be covered, including the biosynthesis of complex metal clusters (as far as is known), the biochemical reactions they catalyze, their chemical and spectroscopic properties, and the mechanisms by which they facilitate biochemical reactions.
